Our School
Hikutaia School has a strong sense of community and family. It is well supported by an enthusiastic and hardworking P.T.A that run yearly events such as a Trail Ride, Quiz Night, and Fishing Competition. We have a whānau system of vertical groupings across the school which encourages a family like feel. The older children are encouraged to support and care for their younger peers through whānau activity days and the more competitive aspect of whole school sports days.

Who are we?
The school draws its students from the local area which includes the Wharepoa, Komata and Hikutaia districts and also from the Paeroa town area – approx. 30%.
The school has four classrooms, a community funded library, an administration area, a multi purpose hall and a large swimming pool set in extensively developed and attractive grounds. The school is fully computer networked and has high speed internet capability in all areas of the school. The large grounds allow plenty of space for students to play and enjoy themselves. They also make an ideal venue for a range of school and community events.

Where are we?
Hikutaia School is located on State Highway 26 between Thames and Paeroa, at the base of the Coromandel Peninsula. The local area has a wealth of information and history and the school, which is 139 years old, has been an integral part of the Hikutaia community. Much of the local history revolves around the gold mining activities and the lives of the established farming families, many of whom have descendants attending the school today.
